But at a Jan. 29 meeting with school administrators and local leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, then-Elder Russell M. Nelson and Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared a shocking announcement: The Church-sponsored Benemérito would close at the end of the current school year, with the 90-acre campus and its scores of buildings to promptly reopen as the new location of an expanded Mexico Missionary Training Center.
