NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A Toys “R” Us building in Slidell left vacant after the chain announced closings across the country has been purchased by international grocer ALDI Inc. for $2 million, according to SRSA Commercial Real Estate.

The building, located in the 100 block of Northshore Blvd., near the almost-abandoned North Shore Square Mall, is 31,000 square feet and includes 3.41 acres.

The building has been empty since early 2018, except for a Halloween pop-up store.

“This was another great opportunity for SRSA to help a major retailer with excess property disposition in the greater New Orleans market. We are excited for the buyer and to see how this property will develop for the Northshore Blvd Slidell retail area," said Barry Spizer, Managing Partner, SRSA Commercial Real Estate.

ALDI operates more than 1,600 stores in 35 states. ALDI uses store exclusive brands to save shoppers up to 50 percent versus name brands, according to its website.
